The implementation of ATT already handicapped the digital advertising space and screwed over small mobile app start ups, now heās pressing Washington to implement laws to bolster this effortā all under the auspices of āuser privacy.ā BSā heās only trying to establish a moat. Donāt get me wrong, I think this is pretty shrewd and I respect Apple playing the long game here, but itās disingenuous, hurts large/small businesses alike and itās wack heās trying to get lawmakers to play along. Obviously, these tactics are nothing new, I just think itās a weak approach. Continue to innovate, but donāt go crying to teacher, so everyone else gets put in detention. Thoughts? https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/10/apple-ceo-cook-pushes-for-privacy-legislation-after-visit-to-congress.html TC: $285k (I think, anyways. Apparently we just shaved $100b off our valuation, but my comp is mostly cash)
Time for tiktok meta and other to rethink dependence on ad revenue
Ya, it's far more ethical to charge exorbitant fees (https://www.paypal.com/en/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees) and interest rates to people who can ill afford them. That's real brave. Taking people who are pay check to pay check and crippling them financially. 3% cuts on donations? 5% for people to send money? 24% for your credit cards? Gouging people on international transactions? Encouraging people to buy Crypto currencies which are ultimately worthless? What next? Pay day loans? Pay later schemes? Real brave, preying on people's financial naivety or who are in financial dire straights. You guys are the model for looking out for the little guy. It's as if you read a book which said "Avoid all these dumb financial mistakes if you want to financially independent one day." ... and then you built a company out of it. If you make money in Silicon Valley.... there are no perfectly clean business models. Only hypocrites who think they have one.
This rant is hilarious. If you donāt want convenience, fraud prevention services and AML then donāt use PayPal and donāt pay for it. Use āworthlessā deregulated crypto or cash. Also he didnāt even comment on the ethics of it. He just gave some sound advice that Meta need to diversify their revenue streams to be less impacted by things like this. However your defensive take on it speaks volumes about how you feel about Metaās ethics lol
Bro, if you are the CEO, you would do the same thing. 1 large company is always at war with others. Ads powered business has an achiless heel and he took advantage of it
Itās a greedy maneuver that could backfire in terms of anti-trust laws. Large tech companiesā eco systems function in harmony, more or less, walled gardens have been been coming downā which is good for everyoneā this is moving things in the wrong direction.
But this is also a move to get Apple a sizable ads business.
So you are anti user privacy and pro surveillance state? Not surprising coming from someone who works at a Chinese surveillance company.
Lazy trope. Iāve worked for a few publishers/platforms and hope to continue to. Pardon me for being concerned about my livelihood and the industry in which I work
That's how you win the infinite war, capitalism is infinite war. Apple is winning here load up them $AAPL
Lol ok TikTok
I believe what he's fighting for is right. Theres got to be more ways for companies to make money than through other people's data
Except Apple start promoting their own Ads business now, where they encourage user to opt in data sharing with Apple.
Isnāt one of Appleās largest selling points āprivacyā? Seems odd to kill the threat that you weaponize to sell your products.
