Hi Blinders, I was lucky enough to receive SWE offers from Stripe and Google before the worst of the hiring freezes and layoffs took place. I am deciding between them vs staying at Snap where I have great job security (but volatile and declining comp). Offers are for non west coast location. TC will be calculated as average of first 3 years to smooth out signing bonus and vesting schedules. Stripe offer is fully remote, 210k base and avg TC of ~$475k Google offer is remote 2 days/wk, 160k base, and avg TC of ~$335k Snap is fully remote, 180k base, and has avg TC of $360k. Potential for promo packet to finally go thru and raise TC by unknown amount. Stripe is clear winner on paper but if you think their private stock might be overvalued, not to mention can't cash out stock until after IPO, the numbers become more comparable. Also Snap or Google stock have potential to rebound a lot in the 2-3 year timeframe. Current TC: $360k and falling. Evan please revert back to 2021 10 YOE #stripe #google #snap #snapchat #offer #L5 #L3 #L4 #layoffs
You can also negotiate Google to match Stripe offer. Is this for L4 or L5?
I tried. This is the highest Google would go for my area.
Looks like L4
Google is a better option than Stripe , at least in terms of TC
Yeah, I tend to think the paper valuation at Stripe is high, and the illiquidity also creates costs, so there is more short-term and medium-term stock upside at Google. And, if there was more long-term upside at Stripe, their AVG vesting scheme removed that. But, Stripe is starting at a much higher paper number. Net-net, Stripe and Google comp seems virtually the same with different discounts for risk and illiquidity, and it comes down to scope of the role, and culture and stability of the company.
Exactly + economic downturn , with 4 year grant you have lot more upside
You can't chill at Google anymore as much as it's advertised IMHO. I joined it as L5 mainly for that aspect but actually it's been hard to get a good grip about what I do. So much confusion around.
Has it become harded because of the layoffs?
Hm no even before that, it's more personal "low morale" experience with the specific team I am in plus looking at my TC crushed as soon as joined early this year. Like you asked, I assume layoffs possibility doesn't help anyone either.
these morons saying "google isnt chill anymore" have definitely lost touch with reality it was always the prestige, there was never a point in chilling at google. If youre gonna chill, go to a defense contractor after google and get paid 5x as much to do absolutely nothing
Stripe TC assumes a pretty generous valuation and the culture is pretty cutthroat there. Unless you're amped up about the work there I wouldn't even consider it. Moreso a decision between Google and Snap imo
I like my team at Snap and the team at Stripe a lot, they’re both in the same tech area. G was kind of just a random team, first I could match with.
Kind of surprised at G getting so many votes! It’s lower than my current comp and it would add about 4 hours of driving a week.
If your promo comes through, then your ongoing equity will be 300k per year. Something to think about especially if you have job security at Snap since you know there is a decent possibility that Snap is currently undervalued due to its financials.
As others have said, Stripe offer is actually low and the company culture is awful, lots of people leave before first year vest. Not even worth considering imo.
Can you expand on how it’s low? Between salary, sign on, and annual bonus, just the cash components should total to around 300k So even if their stock is 50% overvalued it still comes out as top TC.

Opinion: What do you see in this photo?
Stay at Snap as you feel secure and there is promo option in near future
I’d like to but they’ve been dangling promo in front of me for over a year now, tired of moving goalposts. Also lots of brain drain in my work area right now
Ughh, I wouldn’t count on dangling promos. They take no where. But not too worried about people leaving my team unless it’s putting stress or adding more work. Usually I like teams where there is some people movement.
