To stay or leave after recieving counter offer

I quit my job last week because I recieved a better offer. my boss asked how much i would be making and said he could match it. he told me he believes in me and doesnt want to see me go. he said that maybe in the new year / few months into new year i can get a promotion, or new opportunities might come up. should i stay at a job i am comfortable at and might have the possibiltiy of a better title or a promotion? to make matters worse i ran my mouth to the girls on my team that my boss would match my offer and now they know that i would be making more than them even though i have been there for a shorter amount of time. i am a mess and struggle with anxiety. i really care about excelling in my career and gaining new experience. i am not sure how much i can learn at my current job because it is so disorganized and theres no structure. i am comfortable at my job now but i dont feel challenged. my new position would allow me to gain experience elsewhere. i work in the beauty industry as a graphic designer and i love it and this new job would be in fashion. i love both beauty and fashion i just am struggling with the thought of going to a new job and it being worse than my situtation now, or staying at my job and everyone upset about how much i make and knowing i have one foot out the door. any advice is greatly appreciated.

Always leave, counter offer reads trust has been broken.

Your boss won’t be happy later when the girls negotiate mentioning you and the boss matching your offer. You should not have told your team

Yes I know. I am sick to my stomach since telling them. I feel so dumb and know better. I was just in such an anxious fog I didn’t think at all and viewed them as friends, not coworkers.

Classic management debt move by your boss. I wouldn’t stay. Turn him down not because of TC but because you want to explore a new company. If you need to go back it allows you to say that the company was no good.

Counter offer is first warning for future lay-off. Don’t take it!

Never trust "will be promoted in a few months". Ever.

Matching makes no sense. Your future growth could already be stunted from this raise and threat to leave. A counter should at least beat with some margin.

you have to leave. you've burnt trust with both your manager and teammates.

This. And you said it yourself you want to excell so get out of your comfort zone and do it!

+1 on all the leaving recommendations - though it also depends on the size of the company. Managers typically will want to avoid attrition but you will be labeled as a flight risk and likely not supported as much as you want moving forward.

You should leave. All guidance says to not accept counter offers (you can search some experiences on Blind). Plus you have unfortunately made waves at your current company. Take it as a learning experience and you won’t repeat the same mistake. Everyone has said too much at one point in their careers. You didn’t poison someone at the holiday party so don’t beat yourself up. Focus on your new opportunity and your good work there will speak for you.

I hate bosses that only offer to match when you leave. You probably won’t grow there. Time to consider moving on.
