To the recruiters who don’t update a feedback after an interview

Aug 7, 2019 16 Comments

To all the recruiters out there, who don’t have a courtesy to update the candidate after the interview, don’t you feel ASHAMED of not doing your job properly?

Happened to me for Walmart eCommerce and VMware. VMware recruiter even sent me a feedback after the onsite saying the feedback from the team was positive, and now not replying to my emails. What does it take to reply and say, “hey xxx, sorry the team has decided to move ahead with another candidate”

I wish Karma will bite you, when you are searching jobs and get a similar treatment from another recruiter.

A frustrated interviewee!

this generally happens if you are not first choice and they are waiting to hear back from their first choice. So they're stringing you along as their backup plan

source: we've done that on my team

No need for the frustration. Ghosting is normal in tech recruitment. There's a time that I did a phone tech interview and then the recruiter ghosted me. 3 months later another recruiter from the same company reached out and said that I did well in my phone interview and want to arrange on-sites. Maybe it's just a matter of time.

I agree I'm currently ghosted by 3 popular companies. After doing well, even on follow up it is we enjoyed speaking with you will keep you posted on the decision. I think timing is everything. The quarter has just started. My guess is they will be at your door step in October.

Maybe they left the company or got fired? And didn't do a good transfer of cases.

Having interviewed people, they don’t say no because they keep your CV for the future.

Recruiters usually don’t give you the reason why you failed because they don’t want to get their ass sued.

Nowadays whenever you say “no” to someone, they can sue you for discrimination 🙂

Can’t agree more. However I think if someone spent a lot of their time interviewing at your company, you should send them a rejection email as a courtesy

Did you hear back from them?

Yeah, this is why I generally assume rejection or at best being second-stringed if I don't hear back within a week.

You may try to get the feedback in a year when they approach you for the interview again
