Genuinely wondering. I work at Amazon and see the people wearing FB badges sneering at me when I walk to work because they think I’m subhuman (or at least that’s what I can interpret). I work at Amazon and went to a state school - do Ivy grads at top companies think lesser of me? That people like me are subhuman and disposable?
I have 10 years industry experience.. was at Amazon before and one another before.. I have seen better people in Amazon n other company as well than Facebook .. beyond 5 years of experience your degree doesn't matter.. have seen people from ordinary schools excel more than from top schools.. wat matters is your leadership skills, relationships, communication..
^^^ This. I’ve also come across elitists from all walks of life, and they base it on other things as well: - Fortune rankings - industry publication rankings - zip codes - tech school pedigree vs non-tech schools - income - titles/levels It’s a crapshoot. Insiders & those comfy in their status value performance & work ethic > schools’ pedigree.
I think Amazon is kickass.
Don't think otherwise. People working at Google are miserable ( spent 4 years at Google and I kill myself every day to go to work). I am looking around for a good opportunity. Trust me anyone working outside might be doing equally well as Google and Facebook
People who sneer, I can guarantee that those are just newgrad starting a new job thinking they are on the top of the world. That don't know what it takes to go to the top(neither do I). In my opinion you need to respect others who are working under you and understand their true potential. I have seen people who are arrogant and they don't go too far. The director of my team is one of the most humble person I have ever met and he is a distinguished engineer in just 10 years. Again I have seen lot of successful people at Google who didn't go to top school and are doing extremely well. At the end of the day what matters is hard work and respecting others.
True that.
I don’t feel superior to anyone anywhere. That being said, I know that most Amazon people I see are overworked, stressed and waiting until their one year is up so they can leave without having to pay back relocation costs. I feel bad for them.
Basically the Facebook guy you saw sneering at you just trying to be politically correct here.
Yes
Personally no because I know your employer doesn't determine your worth. Period.
airbnb code bros have big egos? i havent seen it but why would they? their product appears to be quite simple.
Why would we?
Why wouldn’t you? You make more money, have better pedigree, generally don’t hate yourselves
Its your problem Amazon. You are feeling inferior
