Curious if anyone has had any experience negotiating salary with Toyota? I’m in talks for a manager role and salary came up. They say $140 base with ~20% bonus is reasonable but I’ve been targeting higher TC, specifically RSUs. Apparently they don’t offer for this level so I’m wondering what sort of negotiating power I would have? TC 135
Negotiate a higher salary for sure. Managers don’t get paid OT so people reporting to you may even be making more money than you.
Can you please provide me with a referral?
How is TC in SWE role? I see from other posts that the salary of SWE is higher (not sure the same domain or not)?
SWEs are typically compensated more but I don’t have any numbers to back that up
Depending on the facility, they don’t negotiate. Are you in R&D, IT, etc?
Can you please provide me with a referral?
Old post but thought I’d add anyways: I negotiated for more base and higher sign-on bonus. Your mileage may vary. TC: ~$200k
Can you please provide me with a referral?
@JWTw33 - what was your sign on bonus as I may have an offer coming my way and what JL did you hire in at? Thx
Anybody here in Toyota down to help for a referral? Heard it’s a chill WLB for SWE
@toyota. I have an offer to join Toyota as a long term contractor. What are the chances of getting absorbed as full time ?
Depends on the business, your function, and team. If your offer is in the business that’s been designated an enterprise priority then a good chance. However, I have to caution that Toyota keeps costs low and flexible by hiring a lot of contractors. So any prolonged period of distress with the business will mean contractors are always the first to be impacted - either by no contract renewal, or just repurposed to another team. I know this as an FTE and having worked with numerous contractors over the years. If you make it as an FTE, your job security is basically good until retirement.
I’m one job level below manager (JL16) and my TC is this year is 150k. Base salary range within my job group for a JL16 is 99-160k, so you MIGHT have much more room to negotiate as a manager (JL17+). As far as I know, Toyota doesn’t offer RSUs like the way the tech sector does. I was able to easily negotiate a higher base when I was getting my offer by simply mentioning that I had a higher competing offer. Also might depend if you’re applying to a tech role or not.
Thanks for the insight. This is a tech role.
What is your YOE?
