Transferable Skills?

I applied for a non tech Product Marketing Manager role @Coinbase even though I have no PMM experience. My experience is in non tech program management and partnerships at YouTube. I didn’t really expect to get an interview but a recruiter reached out to schedule a call. Is it realistic to think I may have a chance based on transferable skills, or did the recruiter just not look at my resume and this will be a painful 30 minutes for the both of us? yoe: 3 Tc: left YouTube without something in place so currently 0, but 200k before #tech #hiring #google #coinbase

Just do it and find out man, marketing isn't that hard, if you've got program and partnerships you've got the core skills needed around awareness and scaling.

Definitely going to do the call! Just like to know what I’m going into with the recruiter beforehand. Sadly I’ve had a few experiences where I get on the call and the recruiter tells me “oh, I didn’t look at your resume before this”. For those roles I wasn’t really interested so it was whatever, but I’m actually interested in this one if I can frame it that I have transferable skills.

Why did you leave google?

My team was eliminated globally because of covid. I was temporarily put on another team and had a chance to stay but I wasn’t excited about the work I was doing so I left. I had SEE on perf for 4 cycles but they refused to promote me and when I was looking for a new role they wouldn’t let me apply to L5 roles but would interview external candidates with less experience. That, along with a bad experience my first 1.5 years there I just felt like it was time to leave.
