JEDI project was awared to MSFT after Trump oppostion what do you think ? https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/10/25/pentagon-awards-controversial-billion-cloud-computing-deal-microsoft-spurning-amazon/?outputType=amp
I think weāve just learned an important lesson: donāt be political with people that hold power over things you want.
I dunno, that's how dictatorships happen. Nobody challenges them. Amazon will be fine without this deal but the United States will not be fine if no one exposes Trump.
@hoppe thereās a reason you donāt mix politics and work. Bezos didnāt need to buy WP
Who the fuck knows... Government operates in mysterious ways š¤·āāļø
So according to this then, "Democracy Dies in Darkness" just cost someone $10b today. Hope it was worth it lol.
Wow! Didnāt know some MS folks would be so arrogant showing off about JEDI in their usernames just because MS got a $10B contract over Amazon. Always considered and will consider MSFT guys as nice folks, except of course those who show off.
Is a username really that triggering?
msft is still better than orcl
The government needs to stop doing these one size fits all contracts. They continually back themselves into corners. Why is this contract limited to one company! SaaS and PaaS offerings differ from companies on different cloud platforms. I was working a procurement and could have saved a ton of year over year support cash had we been allowed to take advantage of the IBM cloud platform for a system. But at the time we were restricted by policy to aws and azure, even though IBM met Nist and fedramp criteria... lobbyist determining how we defend the country is not the best play, and a lack of competition is never good
Read an article that went pretty in depth... they tried allowing agencies to choose their own provider which proved awful for their needs. "The cloud strategy document released last week unsparingly described how that patchwork strategy has hurt the Pentagonās operations. Having so many data centers has created unnecessary security risks, officials said. And it has complicated the departmentās ability to stay ahead of software and hardware updates, they wrote, something that could make computer systems more vulnerable to hackers." https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/02/08/pentagons-cloud-strategy-catch-up-commercial-tech-industry/
can't wait for a BSOD when they really need to access their data
Most of azure is linux. All my team's services run on Linux.
Most of government are windows workloads š The Azure hypervisor is a stripped down version of Hyper-V.
Azure and AWS are pretty much interchangeable. Trump hates Bezos. Who did you think would win?
They arenāt though?
Let's put this in perspective: Bezos is worth $110 billion. This deal is worth $10 billion. I guess Amazon will be ok and Bezos will be ok. Softies did a good job, Azure is credible, and yeah Azure probably did get a lift from Trump, because he's corrupt as shit, but in the end it's not that big a deal. If I learned anything about Bezos from watching all the Q&A's at the all-hands, he will double down on the WaPo and go after Trump even more now.
