Trump continues to build his wall around legal immigrants

Jul 19, 2018 62 Comments

Things are getting harder are harder for legal immigrants under the current administration. Are any of you postponing your trips back to your home country due to fear of being stuck there during visa stamping? What's your strategy when it comes to international travel? Just want till 2020 and hope there is a change in administration, one that's less protectionist?

@RWDS maybe I will. But remember it's not your fault that you turned out this way bigoted / racist etc etc, maybe you come from a place that predominantly had people you associate with so diversity was unkown to you, maybe your parents forgot to teach you about this, maybe you got your ass whooped by an immigrant and you always blame your circumstances for everything that is wrong with you. It's fine, but if this point in your life you fail to educate yourself about things like racism and bigotry and diversity cause now you are grown up and can think, you my friend will forever live with hatred and pass that to your children/family which hopefully they will observe and detest you for. Don't live with this hate, it's not good for you it will make you bitter. Namaste

So if I recently legally made it, and now I love the United States, that’s not ok? But if Ive lived in Washington my whole life and I’m an old white male that loves the US that’s not OK either though. I think the theme here is the anti-American rhetoric rampant from immigrants.

Um, no. You feel superior because you are legal - have made it thru the hurdles. I cannot tell if you really want to be secretly white and/or feel you are one level above rest of the indians and closer to whites. It's a new feeling, it will pass.

Yeah. Make America Great. All we need now, at historical low unemployment rates, is to scare highly qualified legal immigrants out of the country. Genius.

@sergey your original post spoke to the state of the nation but your explanation was specific to a company. Try again.

Resist. Lots of indirect things you can do. Make sure any Trump supporters you know don’t get referrals for instance. It’s subtle, but if we all avoid helping Trumpettes, without doing anything overtly illegal, we’ll continue to marginalize them.

Again, violence isn’t okay. I don’t encourage it, I don’t condone it, and I see it as criminal. I advocate a more subtle form of resistance against Trump, his people, and his supporters: marginalization and isolation. There is nothing illegal about this. It doesn’t violate your rights or your physical safety. If you support Trump, we know that you are at best complicit in racism and misogyny, and may possibly be fine with behavior that doesn’t advance American interests. You also support lies, and lies weaken the foundation of much political discourse.

If you expect us to rollover for you and tolerate your bullshit, you’re mistake. Those who would use violence against you and your ilk are just as problematic for you. So the best approach, fundamentally, is to exclude you. This can done quietly, subtly, and legally.

What if you go too far in your pursuit of ideological purity and succeed to marginalize the majority of voters?

When you call anyone who disagrees with you a Nazi, then after some time you get a "Nazi" majority. 99% of them are not Nazi, but the hypersensitive people with us-vs-them mentality lose the ability to see that.

That's exactly how Trump happened. Far left was drunk on power and started going after everyone and doing thought policing. There were still many real problems that the progressives were given a mandate to fix, but they switched from real hard work to virtue signalling and abuse of power. They were hunting/harrasing/lynching yoga instructors, Nobel laureates, board game players, gamers, atheists, nerds, maxican food chefs, women, men, everyone. The movement went rogue and derailed long before Trump came to the arena.

American people have twice given their support to a black president from the Democratic party. I do not blame Obama, it was the explicit and implicit empowerment of the unmandated extremist left that ended this progressive streak.

In the end, the most vulnerable classes got Trump unleashed on them. The rich "gender studies" feminists will easily survive his rule. The poor vulnerable people they were supposed to protect - not so much.

If you have a visa, you are not a 'legal immigrant'. Fake news.

  • Unity in diversity my friend...

Indians failed to understand this back in 1800’s when British came and divided you guys and now too you don’t understand.

Each one is in it for themselves. Unlike Mexicans who despite being illegal stand together and fight for it..

You Indians want a mahatma Gandhi in USA to fight for your gc..

When you can’t even fight for yourself why would I fight for you..

    Hopefully you guys understand..

There are several fixes to the program around providing a path way to citizenship for people who are here legally - they have been proposed by both sides of the aisle and if it’s your belief that people on non immigrant visas should slave away and gtfo when they’re fired / quit their job, I’m glad that majority of Americans don’t agree with you.

Illegal immigration is maybe 80% people seeking better economic conditions and 20% people who are being persecuted and America doesn’t really owe the 80% anything at all. It’s pretty clear however that large majority of illegal immigrants do bring economic value to the US and it’s in national interest to generally have them here but it needs to come through a proper temporary work visa program that isn’t mired in courts and approval processes. This is never going to happen because significant portion of Americans don’t want to see this and I don’t want the legal immigrants to be lumped into the same debate.

Trump hates all immigrants, and is an anti intellectual, so he doesn't actually want any smart immigrants
