Bump stocks are stupid but functional devices. It's a useful ban, unlike many of the restrictions which are purely based on appearances.

1. Obama definitely tried to pass gun control laws. He just failed. Anyone who forget about the failed post Sandy Hook push either has the memory of a goldfish or is dishonest. 2. The bump stock ban strikes me as a strategic move considering even the NRA floated it. I guess it lets the pro gun side say that they compromised and avoid gun laws they really, really don't want.

Many pro-gun folks do not consider the NRA to be pro-gun anymore.
