I work in Azure, have a good WLB and am tech leading a small team. I work fully remotely MCOL. Recently promoted Senior SWE at MSFT YOE: 5.5 Current TC: 310K Interviewed to see if I can crack senior interviews externally and what other opportunities may exist. I got two good offers (and some others not so good). I smudged numbers a bit for anonymity and won’t be able to further specify split. 1. Twilio Staff: 400K first year, with stacking refreshers for later years increasing TC. Equity heavy comp. Larger base. No sign-on or annual cash bonus. No front loading, equally divided over 4 years. Pros: Team and work look great. Stock at low but good potential to rise as fundamentals are still good. Staff title, which can help in next switch at or above staff. Diverse team. Modern tech stack. One of the best teams at twilio. Twilio Staff > Uber L5a > MSFT senior at levels.fyi. Good WLB and benefits. Remote first culture. Cons: Lot of attrition right now, growing pains. Low Potential for layoffs considering no prior history. 2. Uber L5a: ~410K with front loading and will remain similar due to refreshers compensating for decreasing initial RSU vest. Annual Bonus component. Also a sign on component. Pros: Well known company. High engineering bar. Potential profitability by EOY. Stock has potential upside. Front loading means more money in bank sooner. Cons: My interviewers didn’t seem as competent honestly and didn’t seem as happy. Attrition due to low stock. Higher risk for layoffs with past history. Non diverse teams in infra org. 3. MSFT: Remain at senior and maybe ask for match with highest offer. Pros: WLB. I can get done with sprint work in max 3hr/day. Good rewards annually. Stable stock. Great relationship with Manager. Potential for EM in a year or two. Cons: Tagged as flight risk. Potential backlash from management later on. Low probability of matching external offers anyway. Legacy like tech, can’t look at more C# code. Now is the time to learn and not “rest and vest”. Already mentally checked out. Incoming cliff in a year or two, probably forcing me to look elsewhere again. I’m on a H1B visa. Things that matter to me in order: 1. TC 2. Stability 3. WLB #tech #twilio #uber #offer #offers

Isn't twilio struggling financially? Also their stock was quite overvalued during last 2 years so not sure if it would each those levels and time soon or ever.

Uber is risky and not good work. Msft is safe and decent work. Twilio stock is going to climb.
Is that Washington’s pay for Msft? Didn’t know Msft crosses $300k for newly+internally promoted SWEs to senior level (L63) within WA.
I happen to be a highly paid remote senior at msft, which I do believe is rare. Heavily negotiated initial RSUs, and recently got max rewards during reviews.
Unfortunately big tech is frozen I would stay put. Twilio is risky Uber is riskier

Both Twilio and Uber are risky right now.. Take it for TC but also be on a lookout for warning signs to jump in advance.. Msft is relatively safer
