Not every company has google's hiring process. Soon after your interviews, your interviewers will meet and discuss. If that went well, then it's a decision of the management chain of whichever team was interested based on their needs, your interview feedback, and budget
There's no such thing as "selected by hiring committee". Your interviewers were not random people. They were from teams that were interested in potentially hiring you, including at least one senior person or manager on the team.
