Am I committing career suicide? Need guidance and motivation!! I am 36yr old married man living in Seattle, working two remote roles(AWS architect) for the last 10 months (contract) and making $220/hr (~$460k PA) combined. I am a late starter, spent most of my 20s wasting time and money. I made a rookie mistake by investing around 100k in crypto at its peak and now it's worth ~50k and I have only 60k in my bank account, don't own a house. Also, ordered a Model S Plaid last week, which, I am rethinking. I have two jobs that are very easy(8hrs combined) but I am not learning anything at all. I received offers from FANG and other startups but rejected them as none of those offers were close to even $400k. I am feeling pretty disenchanted with the corporate world in general and every day I think of retiring and moving to the desert. I am also exploring taking a year or two off to learn Vedas but there are people who depend on me financially. I have this fear that I will never be able to save enough money and will struggle when I get old. I am from India and have a GC! Am I committing a career and financial suicide by focusing too much on money and not getting into the right meaningful roles. #personalfinance #money #softwareadvice #jobs #motivation #lifecoach
Please seriously consider transitioning to dance performance or hardware/IC.
Dance performance? I am stiff as a log!

How did you get into AWS architect role? What is the learning path?
Started as a Data Engineer, learnt most of the things on the job and then one day I was made architect of my team. It was tough in the beginning and pulled lots of 12hrs days. Also, preparing for the AWS Sol Arch cert helps but I don't have any!
I Honestly I think your life is snowballing into chaos. Itâs gonna get worse. Get a handle over your mind that is slipping away from with each passing day.
Did you have a similar experience?
Buying a model S plaid is just financially moronic tbh
I agree and that is why I am rethinking and planning to settle on Model YP!
Donât buy a Tesla at all buy a Toyota or a cheap car until you learn to save some money. Stop investing in crypto and just invest in SPY until you have $1-2 million saved. Reliable investments is how you avoid financial suicide
What is PA? Per Annum?
Yes
I am also doing 2X remote contracts for one year. Banked a shitload of cash. Similar numbers as you op. But not learning/doing anything at all so I started interviewing. Currently have offers for G, Amzn, and FB but unsure about it. Theyâre only worth if I can keep doing 1x side contract.
Good to know. I totally agree, after working two jobs, I am finding it hard to settle with one FT unless the FT pays $450k. Even though I have two jobs, I work only 8-10 hrs a day and have only 2-3. meetings daily. In fact, I am thinking of starting a 3rd one, just need to find the right opportunity where there are only a few meetings. What's your long-term plan? Do you see yourself working two jobs for a long time?
Bro are you me? I started a third one this week but I will quit one job soon. Mainly out of respect for my team because I like them and want to stay on good terms with my boss. Contracts are super easy to find when you can clear FANG interviews. The main reason I started interviewing is because I thought the remote situation would end soon. Once we are forced back in, you must find a remote friendly workplace. I donât know youâre YOE but I am not super senior yet and also wanted FANG (not Amazon) golden stamp on resume. Could be worth sacrificing 2-3 years of income for legitimacy for rest of career. If I could continue 2X jobs long term I would totally do it. Especially as contractor because the take home is way more vs a 450k salaried job. I am paying like 5% tax.
Cancel the Tesla. A car just gets you from point A to point B Start investing in VTI If you can, scale up your consulting business
have been driving a 10 yr old Outback for few years and wanted to rewards myself, but, I guess it's not that time yet! Still getting the MYP though!
Lmao wtf are you complaining about honestly? Just make the money and retire early
Not really complaining, seeking advice. Should I continue working on two jobs or get into a full-time role. I have been offered Data Science/ BI Manager roles but it would be a downgrade in terms of salary and I won't be able to 2X my income.
Grind as much as possible and make the most money, achieve FIRE and then just go do something you enjoy like traveling or fishing
