https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/tiktok-ban-bill-house-vote-03-13-24/index.html The US House Passed a bill that could lead to the ban of tik tok in the US -- is this actually happening? Is it goodbye to Bytedance / TikTok? This is kind of crazy banning an app like this -- what do you all think? Is this legit happening? Is this okay to happen? What if the US starts banning other apps and services?
I don’t use tic toc but I don’t like it. Starts a precedent of the executive branch banning things to “protect us”. Stay away from me and mind your own shit 💩
How is the congress passing a law an executive branch action? 🤦♂️
Read the text of the bill https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/7521/text Section 2 > (g) > (3) > (B). Defines a “foreign adversary controlled application” as any app that is controlled by a “foreign adversary” and that the president deems a threat. So with this bill, if the president deems it a threat, it’s gone.
We work in the same building and like 95% of their employees are from mainland China…lol
We is not. We is USA. Love eagle and hot dog ✌️
I is launch Tok Tik.... USA own TikTok
Kids use the disabled bathroom stalls at school to do TikTok away from teachers. Source: middle school daughter
I use the disabled bathroom sometimes also
Wait you're not supposed to, even if that's the only one open and there is no one waiting for it?
Sooo… don’t take the TT offer in my inbox then??
Western world hypocrisy. Wake up peeps.
China routinely bans American social media. Not sure you know what hypocrisy means.
It's an automatic lose if you compare your government to chinese government lmao 🤣
That’s because TikTok is a shopping app now & Amazon sales are decreasing while TikTok sales are increasing
You can buy stuff on tik tok ?!
I also think this is probably it
No reason to silence freedom of speech
R u dumb? Banning an app that 10 others have the same function is called silencing freedom of speech? Weibo or Baidu is silence freedom of speech you clown
STFU
Justice for Tik Tok
Get fukt, you're advocating for a huge corporation and known agency of the CCP? That's a double whammy of corruption. For once the government is doing something useful. Id stupid kids are gonna do stupid challenges some in the US should reap most of the profits
I'm 38 so personally I generally can't stand Tik Tok and won't miss it. Partially because I don't really get what's divergent enough from other social media options that it needs to exist. That aside, given China's propensity for spying on pretty much everyone and seemingly only second to Russia in engaging in cyber attacks on the US and other Western countries it seems prudent to not make their job any easier by providing what seems like a potential backdoor on millions of devices. Caveat: I'm no cyber security expert and I realize that the US is certainly not a shining example in spying on everyone.
You do realize that all US TikTok user data is stored within Oracle servers on US soil, who oversees and audits all US data going in and out? Deloitte is another company we hire to audit US data daily. All US user data stays within the United States. If data privacy was your concern, I’d be more worried about meta selling your data to foreign adversaries, which they have done.
One of the few rational comments out here that aren’t just slinging an emotion. @BD I think he/she’s concerned about more than just data leaving official storage. I imagine that nation-state APTs are capable of a fair many more exploits than that. Hence his comment about creating a back door on devices
Stop using IE
Also the senate is not the house lmao. Hiring bar
