I'm a new hire at one of the big companies (not FANG). The emails I receive either from my manager or HR are full of typos and/or grammatical errors (2-3 per email). This is my first job so I can't relate. Is this common? This seriously threw me off and reminded me of the scams we all receive daily, and I'm not eager to work for them anymore.
It is common, especially in day-to-day communications and basic work discussions. It is less common in large-scale announcements and from higher management.
There are “editors” who proofread large-scale announcements from higher management before they post it.
Being in tech, content matters more than grammar. Do their emails make sense? If yes, I won’t be too worried.
all emails make perfect sense, but these errors are weird
From what I noticed people in management positions send a ton of email. Most of their day might be consumed by sending out emails. Therefore to be efficient, they probably skip proofreading through each and every email and just send them.
I think you should leave your job and become unemployed. This type of unprofessionalism is unacceptable.
instead of being sarcastic I'd appreciate ur opinion on this
Sadly you'll get same type of comments. You're targeting a platform with mainly tech employees. I'm sure emails from Pearson, scholastic, khanacademy aren't full of typos lol. If you remember, emails from your college weren't full of typos either. Those are places that value knowledge. People in tech code and get the job done. Tbh I love their mentality. SWEs have some of the most logical minds. They try to solve REAL problems. We're v were isn't a real problem. (And I'm a writer - I respect literary rules. I've to abide by them in my stories). My answer is: if it bugs you, talk about it. Raise it up. Simple.
Personally I don’t care much about typos in emails sent to one or two people. I treat it like instant messaging (i.e. often one line emails). If I’m writing an email to a large group or I’m writing code, I take spelling and grammar very seriously.
No big deal. There are bigger issues to worry about than typos. Dont let things or people affect you so easily.
If typos bother you at this stage in your career, you're gonna have a fun time over the next 30+ years
it's my first job, everything is weird and I have mixed feelings every second
Me taking notes: another way someone could feel offended.
lol world's average IQ is dropping like a rock, you will a lot more in the future (along with everything else breaking down including software), so just get used it, we are heading to idiocracy in the long run.
Are you a technical writer? In that case, your argument may make sense otherwise, it’s just stupid
