US Healthcare a big Crime Organisation

I’m a foreigner. In my country when you show up in the hospital for any kind of treatment or consultation, you get an estimate first, decide if you can afford, check with insurance or whatever before you decide to go through. If you think otherwise, you can just walk away to a different hospital for better price. First time visiting the hospital in the US was last week for something minor. Asked them for estimate and to my surprise they said they can’t tell me me til I finish. (Wtf in my head). It’s like getting a snack from Walmart and I have to eat it first before you tell me the cost? Goddamn. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? This is the senseless shit I’ve ever encountered. Hospitals don’t have standard costs for standard procedures? A mechanic can tell you how much it costs before he fixes a car? Why can’t hospitals in the US do same? Why is it legal?

In your country do doctors provide diagnosis irrespective of your financial situation ? In US we do.

Intel D’s🥜 May 23, 2019

That’s not really true. When people can’t afford a test, they don’t get it done.

ON Semiconductor chip_monk OP May 23, 2019

No... you have to be able to afford first. There are cheaper hospitals. Mostly the difference in price is in the facility, not the professionals. Like all the fancy decorations and rooms and stuff. Like differences in a hotel. You decide based on your money and insurance.

Intel D’s🥜 May 23, 2019

Why can’t it be fixed? Because most Americans fear change. Any policy change is usually opposed by fear that it creates outcomes that are worse.

Google Mr. Glass May 23, 2019

And that fear is justified

Intel D’s🥜 May 23, 2019

^Then vote for the politician that scares you the most.

Symantec GoRams May 23, 2019

If you can't fix "organisation" forget healthcare

ON Semiconductor chip_monk OP May 23, 2019

It’s the correct ‘english’ spelling. I’m taking it to be a troll. Otherwise you just learnt something. Americans.... smh

Symantec GoRams May 23, 2019

In US we speak en-US

Google anons2 May 23, 2019

You're not wrong

Apple gtUh6$ May 23, 2019

Don’t know which hospital you’ve been to, but I always get asked if I want to proceed with the proposed treatment, and if it’s not fully covered by my insurance I get an estimate. Of course you still have to pay for the diagnosis. You’ve used a certain time of a doctor’s time, and that costs money, even if you don’t proceed with the treatment.

ON Semiconductor chip_monk OP May 23, 2019

Why can’t I know how much it will cost before they do so I can decide?

Apple gtUh6$ May 23, 2019

Even for the diagnosis, if they don’t check you out, how can they know what’s the issue? Just because you say what your problem is, is that enough? a doctor has to verify before even proposing a treatment. That’s just common sense.

Bose cricketfan May 23, 2019

Yes it’s a huge scam , paid for by big healthcare lobbies bribing our politicians at every step

OpenTable Meliodas May 23, 2019

How can you get an estimate before they know what is wrong? Most people don’t bother with an estimate, because that is what insurance is for. You don’t really have to care what it costs beyond the copayment and deductible. When the cost does matter, insurance requires pre-approval. Don’t go to a hospital for something minor, go to your doctor. Hospital prices are akin to buying a same-day full fare airline ticket.

Uber mH7bSe May 23, 2019

You know what. Stupid American would complain the insurance for either not covering the expensive cost, or charging too much for premium. They are to stupid to know the actual price decides everything.
