The department said in a statement Thursday that Apple showed bias against US workers as part of recruitment for PERM, the permanent labor certification program. The Cupertino, California-based technology giant didn’t advertise such positions on its website and made it more difficult for workers to apply for the jobs, the DOJ said. https://fortune.com/2023/11/09/apple-settles-discriminated-case-us-foreign-workers/
$25M fine = It prob barely happened but Apple would rather it go away than fight it
After meta now Apple. Kiss goodbyes to any new perm getting approved at Apple anytime soon. For Apple employees Jump the ship if you need immediate perm filing
This is more like they didn’t advertise the job posting enough before filing PERM
I visited Redmond. Down some barely used corridor was a noticeboard with job listings posted. Seems like a legit way to let Americans know there are jobs.
...in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'
This is a big surprise that in green card process companies prefer people who needs green card
They don't. These articles misreprent what happened.
As if they were actually going to find Americans for engineering jobs by this. Good on Apple to just pay the chump change and move on.
It is stupid AF. You can hire 10000 Americans with single job posting, yet you need individual ones for PERM and the moment someone local applies to PERM one, you have to restart the whole thing….
Sounds like an idea.
I was tempted… :)
From the story “Ninety percent of Apple’s US positions are filled by American workers, the company said.” Why the heck is that not closer to 99% with 330 million population
Congrats this is like the 100000th post on blind about this
First one I’ve seen.
No, on blind I’ve only seen foreigners whine about how USA is oppressing them through the visa system while shelling out 400k+ TCs to them making them fabulously wealthy compared to their home peers, while they price local USA citizens out of their homes, forcing them to either work in tech or leave for greener pasture and pursue their passion elsewhere. Now, as we see from this court ruling, some of them are excluding citizens from jobs, which explains why so many companies have whole orgs that are comprised almost totally of foreigners such as mine. But thankfully the DOJ is still doing some good work. I hope both Perm and non Perm can have a fair and equal shot at jobs. There’s some highly skilled and brilliant people in both groups. Its about merit, not bringing in your buddies and cousins.
Makes sense, on my team of a few hundred only 4% of us are US born.
Its all over tech companies. H1b is prioritized in hiring
Yeah I'm usually the only token citizen on the SW teams I've been on. Seems like companies prefer visa employees who will have less mobility to job hop

Tech companies to avoid as a white guy?
May be true but misleading. Can confirm that Apple discriminates against international talent in campus recruiting
The article literally is the other way
Cisco I literally say ‘misleading’. Campus recruiting happens 5 years before Perm application
