It cannot be done unless the criteria for GC is changed. Yes, current policy is unfair Yes, it has to change. But, keeping same criteria, and removing caps would make GC to non Indian/Chinese impossible. Low wage skull companies should be banned from this. If people are doing comparable work with comparable pay then they should be granted based on merit not country of origin.
The fundamental issue is FCFS is built in our immigration. We should move away to some merit based system.
It doesn’t matter - this will again be filibustered in senate. Even if it is passed it will not help much - except that all employment based immigrants will face the backlog which is only experienced by Indians and to some extent Chinese now - perhaps then there is hope that there will be some sort of broader change. Ideal would be that the number of employment based green cards are increased all up (US issues the same as Aus at this point), install some merit based prioritization system to lower the priority of the body-shopping firms, and remove country cap in conjunction.
^ Valid concerns and the current bill does almost nothing to address abuse. I support the issue but we deserve a better bill than this. Does the bill also increase eb5 and family visa quotas?
