TC = 230+50+100 (terrible manager, don’t see any growth) Google offer L5 = 175 + 15% + 300 The famous down level happened although the interview feedback was great and the HM was super excited. 1) I asked them to at least match my base but they say that’s the max base for L5. Does anyone know the base range for L5 designers at Google ? 2) Also the recruiter seems unwilling to budge. Which is rather strange to me. He said everything depends on the Compensation Committee and that he can’t do anything about it. I don’t want to take this cut in base coz that means lesser bonus too for the same performance levels. Yup, the mysterious nature of it allows the recruiter to throw up their hands and say, “ I hear you but mystery committee oracle voice said No😔
My guess is that there’s technically no max base. There is a suggested band and anything beyond likely needs approval from upper mgmt. It seems like base is really important to you, I wouldn’t accept an offer that makes you compromise

I know principle level designer went to google for L5, but quickly became a staff level.
That’s good to know. But from everything I have heard L5 to L6 is a huge wall to jump. Glad to hear that may not be the case

Where are you located? Base is dependent on geo. Though that base sounds pretty high for L5. Also, your recruiter is right about comp committee. If you sick to your guns about the base, s/he will need the committee to approve it
