Hey friends. Looking to potentially move to Colorado in the next few years and I was wondering what the job market looks like for designers? I know there’s google in Boulder, which would be cool, but not sure how much else is out there (as well as Denver). I’d love to hear from some Coloradan designers about their experience! I’m generally considered a product designer or UX generalist in my current role, as I work on very-quickly-put-together POCs for IBM clients, so UX jobs around those types or agency gigs will be what I’m generally looking for when I move there.
There aren't many large companies like IBM or Google. However it has a thriving startup scene and there are plenty of design jobs. Highly likely to be Amazon's HQ2. Might bring more jobs but would kill the relatively affordable cost of living. The quality of life is phenomenal.
The quality of life is exactly why we’re looking to move, Colorado just seems like an amazing place to live. And startups sound like an interesting route to take, any recommendations for particularly interesting startups on the rise to look at in either Denver or Boulder?
We have a Google office here. It’s in Boulder.
What's the coolest parts of town in Denver? Is it safe to bike to work on the roads there?
Yes there are plenty of bike lanes and a strong cycling community.
I just came back from Boulder. From what I know the current Google office does not have design department? But know that they have a new building and are hiring more people. Correct me if I’m wrong. You should check out Made Movement, Mondo Robot, TDA Boulder.
Any new design opportunities in Denver area? I’m in graphic design (senior lvl / creative director)
