In past I have seen Uber folks getting promoted from 4 to 5A in one year and from 5A to 5B within an year or two. From my understanding, this has made the teams very 5A heavy (at least to the two teams I talked to). Questions: 1. Now that Uber has renamed their levels, together with too many 5A, will the promotion to 5B become slower? 2. Earlier 5B seemed to be more design and cross team oriented than 5A. Essentially 5B was same as Senior in any other company (Google or Amazon). Has expectations from 5B changed now that it is being called Staff? #engineering #software #uber
