Hey Blind Fam, I recently got an offer from Uber and during onboarding I'm at the Choose Your Phone stage. I see three options: Samsung, iPhone and BYOD. Does anyone at Uber know if I select their phone (Samsung/iPhone) I'll have to give it back if I leave? Also, what are the options for Samsung/iPhone? I can't see any specific options. Also, if I select BYOD right now, can I change it later? Help is appreciated. TIA! TC: 110k Uber TC: 250k YoE: 3 #software #engineering #swe #phone #corporatephone #benefits #allowance
Why would you BYOD? To get the monthly bill reimbursed?
Yes, this is what I do
Yep that's the idea. If eventually you're gonna loose the phone or there aren't good phone options then it makes sense.
I recently joined Uber and I picked Samsung but they never sent me my phone and I have a $50 reimbursement... So far I don't think I need the separate phone, slack Gmail and calendar doesn't require MDM on my Android for Uber The $50 reimbursement goes into your paycheck btw
Is that $50 USD or CAD? Also, did you inquire why they never sent you your phone?
I didn't ask yet and I'm too lazy since almost everything I need for now is available I'm in the US so USD Only certain things require a managed device like codebase access or documents or jira
1. Buy a new phone. 2. Get $50 reimbursement. 3. Use the old phone for office email, slack, etc. 4. ??? 5. Profit.
Always choose corp phone $50 is $30 after tax Your data plan is likely greater than $30
Yes you need to return it
Hey OP, I had the same doubt. Did you ever find out if we have to return the device?
Yes you have to return it when you leave
Is 50$ given for some limited time or until you are at the firm?

Never BYOD.
Reason?
MDM. But if it’s not required like the other commenter said it might be worth it to get the reimbursement
