Uber folks how do you feel about your company being the first big tech company needing to run anti-union propaganda in order to be successful? You guys are running these ads hard during Seahawks games. http://www.thestranger.com/slog/2016/12/07/24734194/ubers-anti-union-scare-campaign-may-be-working
They just need drivers for a few more years then they can drop them entirely. Between amazon trying to put all grocery store workers out of a job and all driving going out of business there's a serious pending challenge coming for the working class :/
Uber has been one of the (probably the?) largest job-creating entities in the US and world over the last 5 years, without union interference. The company is, deservedly, damn proud of its impact.
😂That's the biggest load of horseshit I've ever heard. Uber is a massive labor law abuser and created an underclass of exploited workers who make less than minimum wage. The "jobs" that Uber "created" are the modern day of indentured servitude. You should be ashamed of yourself for taking part in such a contemptible and morally indefensible company. The employees (yes they are absolutely employees) should unionize and strike until they get benefits and a living wage.
So Marx, you are saying that an uber driver is earning less than the minimum wage and still continues to do it? How? Would you?
Pretty douchy move Uber.
The Stranger is just SJW communist propaganda.
i think you are trolling, Mr Ben wa balls, but anyone who uses the letters sjw to attack someone is a big crying man baby who can't make arguments or use reason.
Not trolling. Do you seriously think The Stranger is not biased? It's more biased than Fox News.
I take many uber rides and I bring this topic up (drivers don't know that I work for uber). Haven't seen a single driver who wants the union. Reason? Losing flexibility and a lot of rules that union might bring. I'm not trying to defend uber here, drivers just don't want it.
ask them if they prefer uber or lyft and why, that's a more fun convo.
Without unions company ends up with all the power and individual driver with none. Just like companies get benefits of scale both in costs and bargaining so should the workers.
on my last uber ride, the driver told me (unsolicited) that if I liked the uber service, I should petition against unionization. I was quite surprised to hear this. She explained that she works full time for uber making about $30 an hour and didn't want a union to dictate her hours. Not sure if she was influenced by propaganda or if unionization is genuinely bad for drivers.
If it sucks so bad then stop driving. If you say you only make $5/hr then go get one of thousands of min wage jobs in Washington paying $11/hr instead. Crazy people are complaining about being dependent on a source of income that they say is too low that didn't even exist as an option 6 years ago.
All those complains are done by lazy bureaucratic old drivers who want to keep their jobs and do minimum work. All $5 complains are fake. We all know what's going on. Get the taxi lobby killed, it's best for us consumers long term.
