ByteDance toripai Apr 13

Restaurant marked up the price bcs Uber take cut from them, I dont see anything strange with that

Amazon chaos🐒 Apr 13

What restaurant? Says Farmer's Market on the label.

Workday ilovepaint OP Apr 13

In theory it’s fine but I feel like the customer should be made aware that the price is marked up

Google QmAO01 Apr 13

They upcharge based on how busy it is very similarly to surge charging

SAP hDMB44 Apr 13

Thats how it works. Same with Instacart.

Go shopping yourself and this won't be an issue.

Coinbase #refactor Apr 13

That's not fraud. That's a markup. Any 3rd party food delivery service will mark up the items in order to make a profit. I went to Costco myself and bought $200 of stuff. I went home and added the exact same items to an Instacart order. It was $300 including tip. Suddenly I don't mind going to Costco.

Meta chat2 Apr 13

Going to Costco sounds terrible. Easily worth 100 to save your time and hassle

Just don't go on the weekend and it's fine.

MongoDB LbJB18 Apr 13

This has been true since day 1. Every item is marked up, then you pay service fees, then you pay delivery fees, then you tip. And you pay extra tax on all mandatory fees.

Meta chat2 Apr 13

That's not fraud. Delivery services charge a fee for their services. It's a business

Workday ilovepaint OP Apr 13

Masking it under the price of the items is deceptive and fraud imo Basically like going to the dealership and them selling you a car over msrp without your knowledge

Meta chat2 Apr 13

Nothing is masked. You see the price before you buy no? Dealerships absolutely sell cars well over their msrp. It's not fraud either lol. You see the price before you buy. Amazon and target are fraudulent too under your definition lol.

Not even organic. And it’s made of soy oil!

Oh you sweet summer child.

Coinbase #refactor Apr 16

Hah glad to see I'm not the only person who uses this phrase

How did you not know? That’s how Uber Eats and Instacart and Shipt make money. It’s very rare to find an item that isn’t marked up for groceries or food. $2 per pound is a pretty normal markup for online groceries or deli items. I don’t know why people are willing to pay those premiums but I hoped that people understood they existed.

Workday ilovepaint OP Apr 13

Right that’s my issue lol they don’t post it anywhere I was under the assumption that I was purchasing the items for the normal price then the additional fees at the end + tip paid for the drivers service. They also purposely don’t give you the receipt so you don’t find out that the prices are marked up unless you get a deli item or something. If there was some sort of notice that the prices were marked up I wouldn’t have made this thread

You can easily see on a restaurant as well, look at their actual menu then look on Door dash/Uber Eats. This is wild that you didn't know about this lmao
