Not true. It was for the acquisition which was backdated to include AL's time at the startup. Waymo's lawyer fucked up by making such a stupid mistake, casting doubts on any of other waymo claims.

Carrying over know-how and experience isn't criminal. It's why employee retention is so important. I saw the same thing when DRM was hot stuff. DRM Experts went from apple to adobe, etc and there were no rules broken.
