L6 not tech but surrounding (Think product) Moving from EU to NY I was communicated that the leader that was supposed to be my manager is no longer at the Uber and they will go through org changes bla bla bla. I have been in discussions with them since last August, I chose this role over other offers I had which were hard to obtain in this horrid market situation, we already sold our car, found folks to rent our house, paid buttload of money to an immigration attorney to file my kids and wife for GC (I’m a US citizen living abroad) bc Fragomen are totally incompetent and also gave them wrong timelines info, etc. It was a decent offer (I had better) with good opportunity for strong org impact, I’m really frustrated and pissed right now 😣 Man leaving Google was the worst decision I ever made. Damn adjusting expectations will be tough… Offer ~620 L6 (non tech) 15y
You can probably sue them for promissory estoppel. They will have to pay for all your moving expenses, sign on bonus, and compensation for a reasonable period of time for you to find a new job.
Thanks! I need to read about this, I wonder if bc I’m abroad it holds water and where do you actually sue for.
Seems pretty valid
Why quitting before joining? And which org?
Quitting bc it’s not some internal move in the US, I was relocating from EU with my wife+3 kids, that’s means moving your whole life across the Atlantic and require quite a lot of organization. Nothing indicated that the offer is going to be rescinded, the recruiter was still chatting with me about onboarding technicalities a day before the call.
Why since august? If it takes 8 months to join I’m not surprised they don’t want you
First intro was in August and I signed back in Jan, whole thing took around 4 months mostly bc the recruiter and the hiring manager didn’t move and I didn’t push them because I had plenty of other loops in parallel
What is nontech product…
Product
Relocating where? Why not just move to dense tech job areas now? That’s where jobs will be again now that the pandemic is over. That sucks though 😔
From EU to NY. I’ll add that to the post, thanks
