Went through an interview loop at Uber and it seemed to go well. I asked the recruiter about Uber’s remote policy and she said I need to relocate to Bay Area or an Uber office location post covid. I’m currently remote. What’s Uber’s remote policy now? Is it following Google or FB? I don’t mind relocating for the short term and renting (a year or two), but longer term I don’t want to be in the Bay Area because of how difficult it is to afford housing. My wife’s comp is a fraction of mine. I left the Bay Area several years ago.
Policy: starting in September you will need to go into your home office at least 3 days a week. An alternate office is possible at manager discretion. Full remote in a location without an office not possible (at least not on my team). Personally, I am very happy with this model. I like having a hybrid approach so I can see my team for brainstorming etc, but am not required to be there 5 days/week. Though I totally understand the challenge if you don’t want to be in the Bay Area
Full remote is allowed for some teams. My team is pretty distributed so my manager said we have the option to choose our preferred working style whether it’s remote, hybrid, or in office
Agree, some teams and some functions okay
OP what did you do? I’m in a similar situation, I don’t want to relocate to Bay Area and I have an Uber office here in NYC
New policy announce last week. Employees can work from any city with an Uber Hub (eg NYC). Just clear it with your manager
Nice, thanks!
AFAIK you need to be close to office. Uber claims to adopt a hybrid mode where you need to go office at least three days.
Any office globally?
