  • Microsoft has recently cracked the model of “don’t innovate just fill the gap”. After long failures of Zune, Windows Phone, and Windows 8 itself they have realized they don’t have DNA to be Apple. However they have ecosystem for which people will happily pay for the next killer app bridge e.g. Slack and Microsoft threw in Teams, IFTTT and Microsoft copies it in Flow, Notion and Microsoft copies it in Loop. It’s like all they are doing is listening to what is hot and building their offering that people will happily pay for. This model is more sustainable, and less controversial than Uber where people don’t really understand gig and Senators are after point scoring in form of stupid rules. Plus Microsoft is so deep in govt that they are more of corporate darling than Uber. For next few years at-least I am picking Microsoft any day over Uber.

  • Is uber even profitable yet, not sure i understand their long term plan. So far they've been eating through vc funds to subsidize ride prices.

Microsoft on the other hand is one of the most reliable long term holds in tech.

I missed Dara's all hands recently, next quarter we would make just 25-75M??? wtf is that. considering our bottleneck is number of drivers in the long run, I am worried about our profitability, don't tell me about EBITDA, just show me real net income after everything

Uber stock is going to double in next 2 years once it turns profitable.

Microsoft on the other hand is a value stock and will grow but I don't think it's becoming $600 in next years. It might see 20-30% yearly growth

It's not just their earning potential, but how they are currently priced relative to earning potential that makes it a good investment or not. Does anyone here know? Probably not. Fun fact: stocks of "bad" companies (value stocks) tend to out-perform "good" companies (growth stocks) in the long run.
