Hey guys, I got an offer from Uber today for a senior software engineer position at their Seattle office. I am planning to ask for $320k total yearly compensation and would like to know if this is a fair ask. I do have an offer from fb (E4) with $225k total yearly comp. I am currently a L63 with 9 years of experience.
9 yr should be at least E5, no?
I have been pushing for a E5 position, but the recruiter would not budge. Gives me the standard response "we feel you would do well here as a E4". :-(
counter offer with another place. it is all about how much resistence you give. also dont take any offer if there is no signup bonus
i say dont take fb or uber. for l6 base is more than 200k with total exceeding triple that. you need to negotiate
OP has E4 at FB.. where did L6 come from ?
sorry i was making a case. 9yrs should be at least e5.
Take FB if you believe that you are good. You will make E5 quickly if that is the case with your level of experience. Seattle FB office is really good
I don't know. 9 years of experience and coming in as E4? That would suck. There are people 1-2 years out of school at E4.
Even though I am good, I will be moving to a entirely new tech stack and it may take me a month or so to get productive. The earliest I can shoot for a promo is a year?
UBER Seattle is really cool.
yeah, I felt so too. which teams would you recommend?
I hear the Family team is the best.
No brainier if you got e5 fb. For e4 I'd say Uber.
Uber seems overvalued at this point. Has not been re-valued since shit hit the fan over the past year. I'd wait for the real low to kick in.
Rumor is internally they are running revaluation now
What's the average total comp for E4 FB offer nowadays?
I spoke to a friend who joined recently and got 155/300(4 yr)/50. Not sure if this is the maximum they offer for E4.
That's definitely not the average, but it's near the top
320k no chance.
300 possible for senior at Uber
Op are you including rsu? Should be able to get 160+ base, 100k bonus (mostly stock, don't get excited) and 20k rsu which recruiters will tell you is $1mil. So cash, $175-180, + 300k or more in rsu.
Stock bonus vests over 3 years and no stock refreshers right now. Is that changing soon?
you need to negotiate better. you could get much more total comp from fb.
Thanks for the info. Any idea about the maximum that Facebook offers for E4?
i can only speculate base. base is probably 140-160 is what you would get.
