Internship offers from both, what should I join? It's my last year of school so I am interested in getting a return offer. Amazon seems the safest choice? Uber pays a bit better though. #engineering #software #swe
Amazon is almost gurantee
I heard it's around 50/75%. From what I've heard for Uber it's even higher
It’s ~80% if not higher, I interned at Amazon this past summer. I’m pretty sure Uber also has a decent chance of rescinding intern offers as well considering what happened to their new grads this year
For internship, I recommend Amazon. Chances of getting a return offer are higher. With current situation, Uber is very volatile in terms of open positions.
That's what I thought as well. We don't know yet when and if/how things will get back to normal. Uber just a couple of months ago laid off a lot of people. Even if I would get a return offer this could happen again after a couple of months of FT employment and as a jr I'll be the first to be laid off.
I honestly don't know why so many people voted for Uber. Curious to know if it's because they think that uber is stable again or if it's because of how much they dislike Amazon.
Why not both try to postpone you Uber internship to Fall.
Uber new grad offer was also low this year so take that into consideration.
Uber hands down has a much better environment and product.
Isn't it "less than" Amazon tech wise?
I have worked for both. My personal perspective: 1. The product is simply too exciting and the technologies are really fun and easy to ramp up on in Uber. That's not true for most products in amazon and their legacy infra or even AWS ramp up or setup can be pretty annoying with lot pipeline changes 2. Culture: Interns usually get the best of the work culture but an internship is a precursor to a FTE offer. Culture at Uber is much better than that in amazon (particularly AWS) 3.Tech : both are good. It's really good to lean about microservices at both places but I believe I learnt more about systems design/how to design Uber eats. Amazon is just too large and you are likely to learn more about Ops. The tech is specific to Amazon/aws ecosystem - so bear that in mind. Aws particularly is an investment: you learn more about Ops and aws which is applicable at Amazon mostly, or in startups that may use Aws Uber has more systems closer to google/facebook 4. People: hands down smarter younger cooler crowd at Uber. It's a good place for younger kids 5. Rest is your priorities :) Amazon is definitely more stable while Uber can be double or half of it's value in a year

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
If return offer is the priority, Amazon may be the better choice. Uber has not been doing well due to COVID19. Talk to some Uber 2020 interns to find out what percentage received a return offer. Also, it’d be better to intern in something like Uber EATS.
everyone who got good feedback received return offer
That's what I heard as well. I actually think the percentage of uber return offers is higher. Do you have numbers on that @uwuber?
