Hi, I received an offer from Uber a month ago (I accepted it & started there) for L3. Now, I have a competing offer from Google as well. I would like to get advice on whether I should stick with Uber or switch to Google. Uber: Amazing managers & mentor. Want to see me grow. Interesting work in the stack I know. Willing to work with me to get to L4 in the next year or two. Based in Seattle, WA. TC breakdown: Base: $136k RSU (4 yrs) : $125k Bonus: $10k Google (just offered, negotiating salary): Has the prestige! Great manager. Work isn't the most exciting to me as it's not where I see myself right now. Every person I spoke to in Google said I could work in a team and then switch over to other teams when I feel like it. Based in Sunnyvale, CA. TC breakdown: Base: $150k (looking to ask for $170k) RSU (4yrs) : $130k (looking to ask for $140k) Bonus: 15% of base Should I take Google? If so, how much should I negotiate for because Sunnyvale is expensive and I would need a car. With Uber, I can see myself grow for the time being and work culture so far is pretty good. #google #uber #salary #compensation #l3 #engineering #software #swe
Think about where do you want to be in 5 years and which path will take you there. For example, if you want to become a Lead, which opportunity takes you there. Every place has its imperfections including Google, so initial excitement of joining a big Brand dies rather quickly.
Nice, 5yr north star plan? People manager eh?
Join Uber. If google’s hiring manager can’t convince you to like work, you won’t be able to work with full potential and everyone will suffer - work, your growth, managers. Google offer stays for 1 year. They can reach you again in 12 months with better team without interview for same level.
Google is a company I’ve always wanted to work for. But, is it worth losing something good in hand in hopes of something unknown but potentially great?
Google if u wanna retire Uber if u wanna put out fires
Congrats. How was the coding round in uber? Did uber tagged leetcode questions help?
I used 'blind 75 leetcode questions' to help me study.

Uber won’t think a second to add you in layoff list where as company like Google never does cheap stunts
Uber. Go for growth and work you like. Prestige is bunch of crap made up by Blind folks. Go after good work/growth early in the career. And Uber is a top tech tech company. Finding the right team/work is more important than pResTige
It’s so hard to turn down Google when it’s a dream company. That being said, I’m happy at Uber. I appreciate your thoughts on this
You can always go back to googl later. I understand the dream company concept - I was in the same boat. But they don’t care about you. Think about yourself and where you will be happier. You might be miserable in google due to random reasons but you know you like Uber. Googl has nothing unique going it’s way in current times. I am sure Uber has the same kind of smart folks
Uber has higher potential than G. Imagine when self driving cars take off, it will grab massive profits
i’m also in a similar situation 🫣
Lol sarcasm?
@lyft thanks for that insight! Looks like you are at a biggest competition, how do you like lyft?
