As rebrandings go, this does not seem to make much sense.
Why even rebrand? New, hot company with equity in their current logo?!
Designers get bored
goodwill reset attempt, methink. Did you see the various threads about Uber being unethical, the debacles about drivers employment standing, etc etc? I don't agree with many of those issues (it's just people resisting history, and they will be swept away by it no matter what) but it is undeniable that Uber right now has a *serious* PR problem. I don't know how using a stylized anal orifice is going to help in their quest for legitimacy, but then again I am not in marketing ;)

hate to say that but I'm one of the few that helped this going out. I think most of the people in the room hated it that it's mostly Travis' company so... I think everyone in elevator are saying the importance of brand consistency but...
