Recently joined a team that also hired two more internal transfer L5s. All 3 of us are L5s. Iāve never in my career worked with such incompetent people. Both were promoted to L5 within 12 & 14 months of joining right of college. I had to shit gold before for my previous manager and skip would even consider promotion. Their CRs are trash and they donāt even understand basic design patterns. Manager keeps mentioning I should mentor them. Whatās even worse is that I found out their TC > 250k. They say theyāre ramping up even though itās been 5 months since they joined while Iāve only been in this team for 3 months and delivered on a few projects. Is this normal? Should I transfer again? Any advice? TC: 220K YOE: 3.5
Sounds like you have a path to L6
This ^^. If anything this is an opportunity for you
If those L5s are expecting the same velocity as their last promo then probably not.
Welcome to Amazon, where you will find some of the brightest and dumbest engineers. Both groups will leave you wondering what they are doing there.
Maybe you and your judgmental attitude are the problem.
What's wrong with teaching them design patterns?
Theyāre fucking L5.
What designs patterns should be known by L5?
I totally get it. Iām in the same boat. I have to clean up their messy code or ticket handling. I decided to move out of Amazon for good.
Youāre as good as the people around you. I would find a more ācompetent teamā.
But if your team is more competent than you, you get piped.
All over amazon is like this
Dude, you can be first one to get promoted to L6, what's your issue?
āL5 is a wide barā yeah, I had the same bullshit when I was there, OP
