I am reaching out to you for guidance and support regarding my job search, as I have been facing significant challenges in securing employment. To provide some context, one year ago I resigned from my position as a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis due to a toxic work environment. Unfortunately, after my previous manager retired, he was replaced by an individual who lacked any finance or accounting acumen to be a CFO. It became evident that this new manager's only qualification was their close personal relationship with the CEO. The situation became unbearable, and I felt compelled to leave. During my tenure, I played a crucial role in maintaining the company's systems, managing business intelligence, and overseeing payroll, among other responsibilities. However, upon my departure, the organization faced significant difficulties. Approximately ninety five percent of my team left the company in protest, including the directors of Accounting and IT. Regrettably, the individual responsible for the toxic environment is still with the company. Since leaving my previous role, I have been actively searching for new opportunities. Initially, I focused my efforts on positions with JPMorgan Chase, but despite numerous applications, I have not received any offers. I have since expanded my search to other companies, but I am still facing challenges in securing a job. I am feeling puzzled and disheartened by the lack of progress in my job search. Throughout my career, I have never encountered such difficulties in finding employment, and it has been a source of frustration and concern. I am reaching out to you in the hope that you may be able to provide guidance, support, or any insights that could help me navigate this challenging period. I value your expertise and experience in the industry, and any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. I look forward to your response and the possibility of discussing my situation further.
Are you looking primarily for remote work? Maybe there's a better chance at onsite or hybrid works?
Looking for hybrid! I worked for JPMorgan Chase between 2000 and 2004 and then between 2012 and 2014. I always exceeded expectations during my time at Chase and I and quality to be rehired. I am very talented with combining of finance, accounting, IT, and project management.
Are you a US citizen or green card holder? Wells Fargo maybe hiring those positions
Your resume is too long
How do you know?
I have alway made it to the final round of all the interviews I have participated in.
Hiring is very slow in the financial services sector right now, people aren't leaving and attrition is at all time lows. Companies are not doing too many layoffs either, like the tech companies, except for Citi, maybe. Remote roles are not being posted, only hybrid. You might need to look for roles in NYC if you want to stay in financial services, most companies should have some roles open up in Jan/Feb after the bonus payouts are made and people then quit or switch jobs. Good luck and hang in there!
Thank you for your feedback and encouragement, much appreciated. You are right, things are a bit slow now in terms of job openings in the financial services world. I never got issues securing interviews but getting offers have been my problem. I had many interviews with Chase in the past months and always made it to the final round but no job offer. I am not going to blame race as a factor but I suspect it has something to do with my current situation; diversity inclusion and equity is a joke!
It's a numbers game. How many did you apply, ChatGPT?
I applied to applied to almost 50 Chase jobs, Executive Director and Vice President) and interviewed for around 30 for which I made it all the way to the final round with no offer. However I didn’t sit idle, I did consulting jobs while looking for jobs. I was really expecting the red carpet from Chase, I helped mortgage banking build many meaningful systems. I have both Accounting and finance degrees.
