Hi everyone, Is the functional resume format any interesting when trying to cover unemployment gaps? If so do you have advice on how to format it? Edit: A functional resume format: - focuses on skills, not experience - lists the work experience with minimal detail at the bottom of the resume
first time ive seen a functional resume or even heard the term. its interesting
Nice. I will A/B test the usefulness of this resume format with a couple of job applications.
Nice! Please keep us updated, if you're ok with it
Sorry, doesn’t pass the dumb recruiter test. You shouldn’t be putting the “Title” either
Start your own business, claim it failed. Instant employment gap filler.
I did this to cover a few month unemployment gap. Some companies need a body and don't care.
I don’t see Monad anywhere. Is it even functional?
:-)
Whether it’s a good idea or not, it’s non-standard. Recruiters will find it hard to parse and view it as a way to draw attention away from employment details. Worth experimenting with, but the more senior the role you’re looking for, the less viable I expect this to be
When I'm reviewing resume's, I'm usually given 50+ to review. And the only time I'll have is while taking a shit or drinking coffee or something. I will not spend more than 10 seconds per person. This is very well documented across literature. There's nothing more distracting than some smart ass not following a reasonably standard format. If you have a gap, add a bullet point explaining the gap in 10 words or less. People will understand. A smartass format will get you rejected.
said differently, make it easier for asses
Ok I get it, thank you
Imagine you’re a recruiter, glancing at 1000s of resumes that are all roughly the same. You know where to look, what to read, etc. You then come across this piece of shit and your whole day gets ruined 🤣🤣
same outcome if a monkey is put to pick resumes randomly.
It's not worth it, a functional resume makes it look like you're hiding something. It's very acceptable to have resume gaps and just use the regular format. For all the employer knows, you could have had a baby, or taken a break to care for elderly parents, or backpacked through Europe. It just doesn't matter
What’s a “functional resume” ?
Thank you for your answer! I edited the post to provide a short description and an attachment
