Unfair PIP following unexpected results [qa]

I know that PIP is meant to effectively remove low performers from a business , leaving the ones who add to the company , which is fine . It´s also well know the high rotation on the bay area , I loved this company so decided to stay , had new management from MX, and a lot of my peers quit , whatever , so I had to support their orphan teams , I was supporting 5 teams at the same time , on top of that , had to onboard new hires. I admit my fault of not know how to say NO, to request, but given I was the only one decided to try to tackle them . So just received poor performance reviews from most of the product managers , my PM decided to file a PIP, unfair given the amount of work I have done, onboard new engineers, and support so many teams. I feel betrayed because I´ve took more responsibility I shouldn´t have , just to not to leave those teams alone and without support, and still had bad reviews, without empathy of the situation I was. This might be my sin. I´m not accepting the PIP because of that , and be aware that QA work here is difficult. HR was just there to send my ultimatum, but not really verifying facts or checking more , was always on the side of the PM , not able to rebuke some claims, #hrissues #lyft #qa

Call it a lesson you learned in surviving corporate culture. Cut your losses and go somewhere else, older and wiser.

When you leave they’ll realize they screwed up. Corporate culture tends to reward people who don’t do much while talking big game.

This is “invisible work” vital to the company but not accounted for in your review. There’s good research on this topic right now… I’ll see if I can dig up a starting point for you. May be worth grieving it even if you plan to leave. I like to view this sort of parting gift as a leave it better than you found it sort of thing.

it was weird that received bad reviews from teams I wasn´t supposed to support in first palace, and I just supported as good Samaritan, and see that on my PIP document /contract as evidence.

Nobody recognizes this type of work until you hit management. Just the truth. I have had teammates who did it all, but was always talked down during perfomance reviews because they weren't nailing all their tasks. Unfortunatdly you gotta learn the corporate lingo, you are technically doing management work while being a SWE, focus on your tasks, once you hit higher levels people will recognize this type of work.
