Unions in tech and big companies

The big companies in the name of profit rip their customers and employees both. When in need they will hire at an unscalable pace and money spent on external candidates and then fire existing employees who been nothing but loyal and true(mostly) They have been ripping customers too in a way now but won’t get into that. How many of u feel we should have a union where we make these companies pay for their wrong doing and greediness. Especially companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Netflix and other greedy fucks. Their management and managers are greedy. Example watch the cloudflare exit interview. Greedy f HR

The irony that we’re all much closer to homelessness that Elon but the stupidity of Individualism and the myth of American Exceptionalism will keep them fighting against their own interests

The best union busting tactic is convincing every employee that they are overpaid compared to their peers and a union will lower their wages to equilibrium with their lower paid peers. That happens in every industry in every union busting program whether it is $20/hr autoworkers, $90k/yr nurses or 300k sr swes. But everyone at faang wants to believe they actually are the top 10% of their org. They really think that there is some low performer who should make less than them. For 90%+ of union members, they make more than when there was not a union. Wages almost never go down. It’s hard to believe and that’s why unions get killed in the us.

Seems fine as long as you have the same setup for L4 : L6 :: journeyman electrician : master electrician, for example. I assume the master electrician in the analogy has much better pay, bumping rights, pension, etc. I also would guess plenty of junior folks will see the tenured folks as fat and lazy - do you observe that happens in those industries or do you see it as working well? Serious question, I am ignorant but not seriously considering it

I think the idea of a tenured pro being lazy is more propaganda than reality. You still have to do your job, and there are still expectations in every role. Also there is a lot of smaller steps in a union role. Your years of seniority both at a company and comparable companies come into a lot of the algorithms of pay and levels. Think of more how a large factory plays out instead of the simple progression to being a full tradesman. The entire shift is union but many have very different roles, responsibilities and specializations

There are a few who always think they get money on merit and when fired they feel wrongdoing. I have a label for them - asshole. I wonder what is the process to have this conversation without hr eye rolling. I know Apple store employees were finally able to do it as Apple was abusive- hiring firing and low pays as long as they get to keep their profits up. Time that we show People assets is also important for a company and they don’t care then we united will make them.
