Hello people, I’m recently going to join Walmart and I’m little but upset with their PTO policy, at my current place I have total of 24 PTO a year which is really nice to have but at Walmart they say it’s unlimited PTO and I doubt I would be able to take even 20 PTO with this policy. Is unlimited PTO at Walmart really a scam as well? And how many PTO do public generally take on average. #tech #walmart #walmartlabs #pto
Unlimted PTO is scam. Run away from unlimited PTO companies
Not all unlimited PTO policies are scams. It really depends on the company. I took 25 days off in 2021 not including sick days or holidays. My manager does the same and encourages the team to take time off when they want/need it. Same with the company I was with before. Not sure about wal mart. Probably worth avoiding altogether.
Nah, it's only bad if the company you're at has bad wlb. Most companies with regular pto have super low limits.
Its a scam, but becoming more of the norm these days
Wait until you find out you have to pay for coffee, snacks and lunch too
Truth
I take as much pto as I want, but my manager and skip isn’t a POS so that might be why. Low attrition, meaningful greenfield projects, not in BV. If you look you can find other teams that don’t suck, probably not in supply chain though.
How do you think PTO works anyway?
Walmart is filled with indian upper management. They'll work you like slaves. You won't be allowed to take leave
Racist much
Yeah all you indian managers are good for is name calling, not treating your reportees with respect. Dude I've worked in Walmart where from my manager up until the SVP himself, every single one of them was Indian. Not just mine, tens of colleagues had the same situation and we were tortured by those old school government office type heirarchical managers. Never again. I'm talking about my bad experiences and i will continue to do so. You can do as you wish
For me it was really between me and manager. In my org, holidays are not officially tracked, so as long as you're manager is aware and is ok with your holidays, you're set. I had a few life events last year and ended up taking more PTO than what was in my offer letter.
My last two companies had unlimited PTO. I was one of the few who truly took advantage of the policy. As long as you get your work done, you can make every week a long weekend and take 3 days off here and there. But longer vacations like 2 weeks or a month off to go skiing in the Alps are going to be subject to approval just like at a regular company.
Bentonville has limited PTO, which is nice because you have that sense of use it or lose it, in California they have unlimited PTO but people usually use them. I would keep track of them and use at least the same amount that people in other locations have, if anyone complains, you can say you are just doing the same as everyone else in the company.
