Guess it depends on the team and your manager. If you see the rest of the team regularly taking extended time off, you won’t stand out if you do the same. Otherwise, “unlimited PTO” often means “no PTO”
Many companies are going down the route of unlimited vacation now. Which sux since actually they are doing this to discourage employees from taking time off at all!
My company has unlimited PTO and we were told it should be “fine” to take 2 weeks off and single days every now and then, when needed.
So the message is not to take more than 2-2.5 weeks off. Any tips on how I can find out about something like this before joining a company?

Unlimited PTO policies aren’t there to help employees. They’re there so employers don’t have to pay out your accrued vacation when they terminate you. Many states, especially California, require employers to pay out accrued, but unused, vacation when you’re terminated. Employers get around that by offering unlimited PTO. In an unlimited PTO policy, there isn’t vacation accrual. Even though you’re able to ask for time off, your vacation accrual is 0 at all times in the eyes of the law. This allows your employer to terminate your employment without paying you any unused vacation days/hours. If you were diligent and haven’t taken vacation and you’re laid off suddenly, then you won’t get anything. Don’t be a fool. Take your vacation.
Trust me, i am looking to take 4 to 6 weeks of leave with unlimited leave policy. Been used to 4-5 weeks anyways thus far in my career and it'll be v hard not to take that much. I travel a fair bit plus spend time with family every yr. But looks like PayPal maybe not be the place to treat unlimited leave as unlimited
I did encounter all indians in my interview and found that very weird. Never seen an interview panel all of the same ethnicity ever. Goes without saying my manager is Indian too. Seems like PayPal struggling with diversity
