Updating linkedin
Hello everybody, I got an offer from Amazon L5. Is that a senior position? In my last two companies I was senior engineer. In IBM I am now Band 8, most senior band. Amazon L5 TC is nearly 50% more from my current TC. If I write only engineer in resume and linkedin, when recruiters look at that next time, is it a bad indicator? Can they assume that no career progress and failure? Or may I write senior engineer for L5? YoE: 6 TC: 120k #amazon #ibm
L5 is not senior at amazon but many external hires who are “senior” at their old companies come in as L5 unless they were already L6 equivalent a big tech or similar company.
The position was L5 and they gave me very positive feedback. Is there any possibility to change it to L6 If I request it? Is there any procedure like upleveling?
no way. a hiring loops needs everyone at the same level or higher for the position being filled. very unlikely that they would have had all L6 interviewers for an L5 loop.
L5 is a SDE position at Amazon. The levels are L4 (new grad/sw1) L5 (sw2) L6 (SW3) L7 (Principal) Usually YoE: 6 qualify for L5 or in exceptional cases, L6.

I have masters degree and 1 year away completing my phd. Is it hard to level up from L5 to L6?
Levels.fyi shows that L6 is "senior" at amazon. Band 10 is the highest band at IBM, not 8.
Band 9 and Band 10 are manager levels. Band 8 is the most senior level before manager path.
That's not true I know plenty of band 10 ICs at IBM. They call it "senior technical staff member" or stsm, it's on levels.fyi too. I'm sure you can find some in your internal corporate directory.
You can write whatever you want in your title in LinkedIn. I usually go as "Software Admiral II". But in the "experience" section it's better to stick with the real title.
L5 is 2 yoe college grads all the way to people with 10+ yoe. It can be terminal. Pay is good but levels mean a lot at Amazon as they’re visible to everyone. Youll be making good money but low in the pecking order.

You are at Band 8 with $120k? Isnt that band starts at $140k?
I am in the EU region. Unfortunately we got much lower...
It's not about unfortunate. it's prolly based on the cost of living in your area.
L5 is not senior engineer, that’s L6
Also, 50% extra from 120k? That’s low for L5. Did you exclude RSUs, sign on bonus, etc?
Its in EU, is it still low for EU as well?
