Okay so here is a tricky situation. I recently got a new VP and he met me on a Halloween event and got introduced; we got chatting about what I do and stuff. I tried to be super formal and was a bit nervous interacting with someone so high in the ladder; yesterday he found me in the coffee area and generally spoke something about my work and stuff and I gave him an update on a recent study I did. (So this wasn't something super complicated ). He requested I send him the presentation, so I sent him copying my manager. Today, he blew up my image in a very high proportion and wrote my manager and another Director saying- "How my enthusiasm is great and that I should be involved in all these important decision makings" copying me in it. I personally think its not a huge deal, I don't want my manager to think I am fishing for compliments from management or bypassing him to get credits from upper management. I am not one of the great ones around, I am probably good but not that awesome. Any advice?
Yur fuked
Why?.
Just bask in it, man. You did good and someone noticed enough to say something. That's rad as hell. There's probably some leverage here if you wanted to fish for it, but really just be proud of your work and that someone noticed. If your manager thinks you're somehow going over his head, he's a shit manager. A good manager would *want* someone else to notice that he's got a stellar employee in his team.
Thanks, I think regardless upper management will always say good things lol
VPs are humans too, he’s not god. Don’t worry so much about status, be respectful of everyone, make sure your ideas and work are heard by the right people (which you did), and you are golden
Ride the tide. Don't overthink.
, Thanks. Doesn't come naturally... Will try
You are a she, right? My ex girlfriend had a similar situation where she thought the person was hitting on her by being extra nice. Probably natural to overthink a bit if that's the situation.
