Hi Blind community! I’m in an interesting situation and would love to get advice. I work at one of the Big 4 in their MC team. For a little bit of context, I am currently in Team A (home team), but since they’ve opened up rotations, I’ve had the chance to be part of Team B (team I’ve rotated in). I am currently a Consultant and started in Feb 2020 as a Grad. I really don’t like Team A – work isn’t great, culture is non-existent and my ‘career counsellor’ is a joke (regularly shuts down my idea of moving to Team B, very self-centred and thinks he is doing me well but I always find myself on eggshells with him). Team B on the other hand – I love the work, the team culture is amazing and I have been lucky to be part of their projects for the last 8 months (the partner of that team thinks of me highly, and has regularly said that I would be a great fit for the team). Anyways, situation is… I have an offer from Accenture (competitor) as a Senior Consultant in a team that resembles Team B. It is a rank higher than what I am at the moment and the pay is 105k (I am currently on ~80k, but our Senior Consultants get paid ~100k so it is comparable). I want to approach my team (Team and pretty much ask for a few things, and I can list them in priority: B) Move to Team B – saying I have an offer from the same team elsewhere and I would love to stay at this current firm etc. B) Fast-track promotion to Senior Consultant – this may be harder as the EOY outcomes have been finalised and we have the outcome meetings next week, but I can put it on their radar? C) Negotiate salary – Less of a priority in the interim, but it would also be nice to negotiate the bands a little now The ASK: how can I bring it up at work to get A and B (and maybe C) above? Has anyone been in a similar position? I’ve been told to be diplomatic and make sure I don’t ‘piss’ of my team in doing this – but I am unsure how to go about this. Some others have said to approach the manager and partner in the team I am enjoying and bringing them onto my side – but they may also get the impression I am interviewing elsewhere? For context, I am currently on an engagement where I’ve been told that I am doing Senior Con level of work and the team is relying heavily on me for one of the streams (of course I am replaceable at the end of the day, but it would be a major inconvenience since I was part of the pilot team that won the on sell and have a strong footing with the client etc.). EDIT: I don’t want to take the Accenture offer because I’ll have to relocate away from my partner and family (single-mom and younger brother) here. So it is almost 100% off the cards. TLDR; hate my current team, I’m currently doing work for another team at the moment which I love. Have an offer from a competitor and want to bring it up at current workplace that I want to move across and negotiate a few things. #consulting #negotiateoffer
Sheesh - that could have been three sentences lol
Shocking that Accenture can beat Big 4 pay. They are known to grossly underpay especially at the SC, M, and SM levels. Just one data point from personal experience that Big 4 wouldn’t negotiate with me at the PPMD level when I was head hunted twice. Their offers were lower than my current comp at an outsourcing firm. Their only argument was “brand name” lol. Recommend accepting the offer from Accenture and sticking it out there until you get an offer to work for a client. Many folks have done this and been very successful. I found Accenture exit opps amongst my peers to be much better than Big 4.
Really? I recently interviewed with El Green Dot and Accenture for a cloud role and Accenture CRUSHED Deloittes offer, though granted I’m only a staff 2. Accenture’s offer was strong enough that I used it to push my FAANG offer higher
Accenture is better for tech roles. Deloitte is always playing catch up when it comes to technology and tech salaries.
So what advice/suggestion do you need?
Edited above! Sorry. ‘The Ask’
