I'm going to visit India soon, and was wondering how do I use my credit cards there? last time none of my credit cards worked. Chase Sapphire would refuse to work on any of the terminals, even tho chase specified they didn't block it from being used internationally. Anyone have any idea of what I might have missed? I'd rather not carry cash around/have to install some app to use instead.#misc
For me only Apple Card works
Some places they work and some they don’t. Better keep cash backup to avoid sticky situations
Chase sapphire worked for me. Used it last month
American express isn't well supported at all merchants. If you got visa/mastercard it should work. What network is chase sapphire?
Visa
Amex is the one which works well for me as long as the merchants support it. Airports usually do. But most local merchants in india don’t. For others, I had to give advance notice of travel and some work and some don’t regardless
Just give travel notice at least for Chase! Note India like Europe is now exclusively Chip and Pin
VISA, Amex & Master card works everywhere. You just need to activate the international swipe option. However, Chase Sapphire is a different case, it will still give you less than 20% success chances even at 5 Star hotels. One of the solutions I read was to get a plastic card instead of a Metal & it worked for many travellers.
I used chase sapphire which is a metal card and it worked every where in India. Even in a small store. And I didn't even activate anything
Chase Sapphire worked. Just update in portal before u go
Interesting coz last year it didn't work for me. Had to borrow my parent's sbi card lol
What to update on the portal. I assume you mean the chase website
Its not about the card or activating it for travel, some merchants terminal do not accept international cards to avoid fraud. Theres no way around that, try maybe paytm money and load it from your chase card, will charge a fee but a back up option
How does patym work for non residents? Isnt it still restricted to resident Indian citizens? Im a non resident OCI and it doesnt seem to work for me. I have an adhaar card if that makes a difference
