I’m a VC. Ask me Anything?
TC?
Depends. It’s more about whether you get carry and how big your fund is. VC at the Associate level is lower TC. Principal may be a toss up. Typical fees are 2/20. With the 2 being 2% of total AUM being shared amongst partners. The 20% is 20% is for partners. Typical Associate/ Snr Associate is 140k + 30% bonus. Principal can be 250-350k.
That's pretty low...like bank TC
Thanks!
Pedigree more often than not. However, product market fit is king.
Was going to ask the same thing. What does “pedigree” mean in this context?
What is sink to swim ratio of startups you people deal with?
What does this mean?
How many startup ideas sinks vs how many survives, rough number in your stint...
What criteria should a potential employee use to assess the potential of a startup? Say it is a C series company, selling actual products on the market with revenue and raised a couple of hundred million, what are some of the criteria you would use to assess the chances of success and the equity being offered?
Why did you enter this industry?
+1
If you’re not a Uber geek, and want a high leverage route to big $, this seemed to be the way to go.
Is it easy to sleep at night? Or are you conflicted with the deals you do?
Sure
What is VC?
Venture Capitalism: funding startups and investing
Did you invest in pre-revenue/traction companies? If so, why?
Yes, but only with past entrepreneurs with a successful track record OR serious pedigreed/ geniuses with something we believe is a very unique seminal product. The latter is like trying to find a needle in a 1000 haystacks.
How much TC does a VC make comparatively to SWE? Say 8yoe?
