Heard that it is brutal for VMWare employees. Any take VMWare brothers? Don’t see much in media. @Vmware @Broadcom Tc: 348k
Everyone I know there seems fine and relieved that they're not in limbo anymore.
What about culture?
The team/org hasn't changed. Main concern is the RTO, although my friend was already RTO 3 days a week pre-aquisition.
Mixed feelings to be honest. I'm not laid off but the culture is 180 degrees opposite to what we are used to as a software company. I'm willing to see this out for atleast 6-8 months before deciding to stay or leave. RTO for 5 days if strictly enforced in the coming months is a no-go for me. There are other concerns too. I'll wait for the fog to clear a bit and let everything settle down. Definitely a relief that we are no longer in a limbo though.
It's not strictly 5 days RTO but 70% attendance expected. Manage your vacation, sick leaves, WFH in rest of the 30%.
What they do if less than 70% ?
It's not 70% at an individual level, but the average for each site There are some sites that have less than 70%, I think they get a warning to do better next time.
It isn't going to be good. Brutal culture ahead. I suspect most will leave. If vmware had a union prior to this acquisition, folks would be able to organize and negotiate on the RTO and other mandates sure to follow. As is, looks like 50 hr work weeks, 5 days in office.
It’s a company wide policy, why would you think vmware gets to be special? And it looks like most will stay given the big TC increase.
Lol 😆. So RTO is brutal culture? None of us work 50 hrs a week, 35 hrs at best. Most companies are planning a few days RTO anyways, and it's not like 5 days RTO is a must, you can take a few days a month here an there as long as your manager is ok with it
Things are tough. There was an all hands with Hock and he said. No WFH, No new technology, No growth opportunities. Pretty much we will sustain what is there I mean some core products. Many are regretting accepting the offer.
No new technology and no growth opportunities doesn’t make sense to me. Like why would you buy a company like VMWare and then say I don’t want to build innovative product portfolio? Just trying to understand thought process here.
He didn't say no new technology. He said he won't invest in a completely new technology like generative AI. He did say no WFH, but that was always expected His philosophy is to capitalize on what you are already good at by making the product better and market leader. I don't know what dlbW33 means by no growth.
Any idea when the stock - cash vs Broadcom shares start showing in etrade account?
If by brutal you mean there were a large number of layoffs, then yes. If by brutal you mean the new direction is business only, no BS at the office, then I guess that's also a yes? I got the message from Hock that he cares about the meat and potatoes and none of the frills. That works for me.
it is what it is I guess
I have some friends in VMWare who recently became part of Broadcom. For now, they are happy with their fat RSU grants and TC increase.
How significant was the TC increase?
Are more layoffs coming?
