Hi All, What should one expect for base comp for a VP level role in a 50 person startup?
700-100,000,000
160-200k DOE and depending on how much they raised
Equity should be around 1% again DOE
At a 50 person startup if you’re a VP of Engineering, you likely manage 20 or so people. You can compare that to a L5 to L6 level manager at FANG that makes a TC of roughly $300k to $500k. But you need to figure in the value of startup equity and runway concerns, so anywhere from $150k to $250k plus a matched amount in vesting equity is normal. The higher on base you go, the more prone to at-will termination you become if the runway goes sideways. The best rule of thumb is to maximize your base but hold your own on TC and therefore % ownership at a startup where growth strategy is in plain view. Most risk takers don’t figure in the risk into their TC math.
