Offer: Indeed vs Goldman (Japan)
Got offers from both Indeed Japan and GS Japan, which one is better in terms of career growth and TC in the long term? Please help 🙏🏻 Indeed TC: ~15m (12m base, ~3m for RSU + performance bonus) Level: SWE I Team: cobra, front-end intensive work Goldman Sachs TC: 14m base + unknown performance bonus (hr refuse to give any number, not even average bonus my teams or other teams) Level: associate Team: back office, securities settlement team, backend role * Numbers are in JPY, where 1m jpy ~= 7.9k USD YOE: 2.5 for backend (3 if interns counts) Current TC: 🥜 Update: Indeed increased the TC from 15 to 17 (+1m base, +1m sign on) after knowing GS's offer. I have decided to go for Indeed.
Do not join goldman unless it's a front office team. Your bonuses won't be good and competitive and the work will be bad in most of the cases
yeah, I heard that front office role is the only role worth joining GS... Any idea about the bonus for back office role in average? Would 20% of base be possible?
GS Japan has a lot of hot girls and it will command much more respect in Japanese society (aka hot girls’ parents). I worked at GS and lived in Japan for six months.
Congrats op, I guess for GS tech bonus would be 2-3 months in a avg year. It can be up to 50% if you are top performer.

It's a slow company. Interview process is broken. Can only imagine how work would be. GS has better name

I also feel odd when one of the interviewer asking me what will I do if someone steal the credit for my work. Never encountered this kind of situation before, maybe it really happened in GS lol
Actually, most people are generally nice at GS
At Indeed, there is no emphasis placed on work quality or work efficiency, the quality and speed are both bad. However it's a nice retirement home type job. Just don't expect any career growth unless it's your first/second job. And know soon after joining to not get too attached to Indeed's bad habits. Other companies, both smaller and larger, have MUCH higher standards for quality and efficiency than Indeed. Don't see Indeed as a company that knows what it is doing.
every opinion from the Internet about Indeed is saying it is a retirement company and has not much work to do. Is it really true that there is no single team in Indeed actually has demanding work and long working hours? Just curious.

Indeed no questions asked. I spent 8 years in Tokyo before moving to London and interviewed with them ~2015-2016 (whenever they were just moving to Tokyo) + have lots of friends in banks there. Bank jobs in Japan is dead end and boring, it will be hard for you to grow to next level. Indeed, while considered a tier3-4 company in the US, is highly valued in Tokyo. Senior-Staff level jobs can 2-3x you initial salary in a few years. You’ll also probably work on more interesting stuff in a more techy environment. I’d go GS only if you want to stick to finance.
