When you quit a job and the company pays you a lump sum for unused vacation hours - how is that taxed? Is it treated like any other paycheck or will there be extra tax taken out?
More tax will be taken out since the total compensation on that single check (base + vacation) is annualized and used to determine what tax bracket the payment should be taxed at.
that's just withholding, tax rates don't change on a per paycheck basis

Same as salary income. But FYI if your company has an “unlimited vacation” policy, which is popular at startups these days, then you don’t accrue any vacation hours and you won’t get paid anything.
