I just got word that the Venmo team is putting together an offer for me, but I've heard some bad things about Venmo on Blind and Glassdoor. I'm trying to get a larger consensus. I currently have another offer as a team lead at Squarespace to work in the mobile org, but Venmo is discussing making me a team lead someone in their mobile org. I at least have a Senior position available at Venmo if I want that. I've heard good things overall about Squarespace and worse things about Venmo. Anyone else have any opinions?
Before deciding, I think you should ask to speak to team members at both companies and ask lots of hard/tough questions and see how they respond. Squarespace has been going downhill in the past ~12 months and the future doesn’t look too bright, both in technical and organizational terms. Technically, our capabilities are getting worse and worse: poor design choices and even poorer implementation. We are having SEV-1 incidents on a weekly basis. Organizationally, it’s become political and most people spend their time sucking up and pretending to work, rather than doing any real work.
Op, congrats. I don't work for Venmo, but don't take advice about the parent company as Venmo, Braintree are still shielded orgs from the mothership, have wildly different culture. Our consumer products have been growing fast and that includes Venmo, so it's a very high impact product for PayPal now.
I'm a designer at Venmo and I absolutely love it. Best job I've had, am very supported by them.
I work at Venmo and I enjoy it - if you are looking for a good WLB and friendly coworkers. The TC is not as high as other FinTech companies like Square or Stripe. Always a tradeoff :)

Crossed a line with my boss
I don’t work at either of them but I did interview at PayPal. I did not like the culture a lot because during interviews I felt people were talking ill about each other - a red flag. However your team could be different. If I were you I’d join sqaurespace. I feel it’s moving fast and will have a good market capture in the next few years.
Thanks for the advice. The people that interviewed me from the mobile teams at Venmo seemed very nice, but after my interview I read some reviews and I have heard that they recently took away some benefits like free lunch, but more importantly than that I read that all the senior employees recently quit after their stocks vested fully and the remaining employees are all very new with only a few years of experience in average each. But that is good information to have about your experience interviewing with PayPal and what that culture is like. Culture sometimes leak down from parent company to child. I do agree with you about Squarespace, I have heard much better things about them and they are growing and profitable.
Yeah and I’m sure you’ll make the right choice. You’ve an enviable position because they both are doing good. Good luck my friend !
