Have any VTeamers successfully been promoted from Band 6 to 5 in VZ? Seems not many Band 5 jobs ever get posted and from what I’ve seen, if you haven’t been tapped on the shoulder to apply pre-req posting then you have a 0% chance of getting it...#verizon #telecom #interview
Yeah, it's like a cardinal position, someone needs to die or become the pope for the position to open, and even than getting that position is political.
That is so true
I’ve only seen the ones for the new Data intelligence org under Chris demaio
That's generally right. Band 5 positions are usually opened with a candidate in mind. The hiring manager still has to do the pre-requisite 3 interviews if it is posted, but you have almost no chance. Took myself and other colleagues years of pain and luck to get the bump.
So you were able to eventually get to Band 5? I’m at that mid career point and grinding hard, getting great performance review feedback, etc. I really want to stay and grow within VZ, but sometimes wonder if I should look elsewhere to get to the next level since it’s so hard internally.
Yeah me and my two peers were able to do it with a lot of effort. Took us 3-5 years each of fighting from DMTS. You need full buy in from your VP to get there and stomach for a lot of hr grief.
I ve seen it just a couple of times. Normally, it happens with people who have spent at Verizon YEARS. Like 10+ years. Or who came from outside but from very senior role in mature organization.
I’ve also seen folks leave Verizon only to come back a few years later at the higher band/title. Unfortunate that’s how the world works.
I do feel like we are “over titled” at Verizon. From what I’ve heard, TC for Directors at VZ are comparable to VP and above at other large companies (non FAANG). I’ve seen really good top tier Managers/Sr managers spend a decade in Band 6 getting passed over for Band 5 get frustrated and leave the company. Maybe add a band and make Sr manager/Associate Director a new group with bigger salary and STI range. The “RSUs” below band 5 are also a joke.
Really? I've been told it heavily depends on location. An ex colleague said directors at BR don't even crack 300k. Would love to see some examples to see if it even makes sense to have a career here.
Base salary is obviously a factor but I believe Band 5 gets 40% STI bonus on Base salary. So if you have a band 5 with $200k base you are at $280k. But the real money comes in for Band 5 through their LTI (RSUs). I’ve heard 70% of base in LTI before performance modifier (can anyone confirm?). So TC can add up very quickly. Any band 5s willing to share their TC:-)?
This is really going to vary. There are directors with a span of like 50 in Krista's organization, then I've seen directors with like 10 or 12 people. Same goes with VP some have 50 people some have thousands. The higher you go the more variation across a band there is.
You’ve gotten be in with the right leader who brings people up with them
Personally I believe band 5s don’t have time to be on blind since they barely have time for their band 7vs lol
Haha. I do have to say I have worked for an amazing Band 5 before who was instrumental in helping me get from a Band 7 to Band 6 years back.
That’s nice, while I get that my managers themselves have to look out for their own growth , the last two years I’ve not seen any real intent from my direct ‘boss’ but I’ve had good managers prior to that. Time to jump ship before the east winds begin
Not getting a promotion or even recognition is the reason I am interviewing. It really feels like I outgrew my position and role, or at least I feel like I am not getting credit for my work. I don't think I have crazy ego or ambitions, just healthy ones :)
So true, I feel you.
I've seen like 2...?
That’s reassuring:-). Seems like all band 5 new reqs are either external hires or politically wired. Wish VZ did a better job of promoting within.
Verizon promotes from within almost to a fault. No company is just free posting director positions without a plan, after a certain level that just isn't how jobs work anymore.
